A Chordettes were the female popular singing quartet, usually singing a cappella, and specializing within traditional pop music.
It were 1st organized inside Sheboygan, Wisconsin in 1946. A original members of the class action were Janet Ertel (1913-November 4, 1988), Carol Bushman (her sister-in-law), Dorothy Schwartz, and Jinny Osborn (or Lockard) (April 25, 1927-May 19, 2003). Around 1952, Lynn Evans replaced Schwartz, and within 1953, Margie Needham replaced Osborn (who was with the binky user), though Osborn late returned to the class action. Nancy Overton also was the member of the class action at a late period. Originally it sang folk music in the style of The Weavers, but yet changed to the harmonizing style of the nature and severity called barbershop harmony. A share of this vary seems to exist as influenced by Osborn's father.
Jinny Osinnate was born around Seattle, Washington. She was innate Virginia Cole, a girl of O. H. "King" Cole, world health organization was president of the Barbershop Harmony Society (then called SPEBSQSA), & Katherine Flack.
Fallowing performing locally around Sheboygan, it went in Arthur Godfrey's radio program, ''Talent Scouts'' in 1949.They went in to feature status in Godfrey's every day program, then went in to produce the total of recordings for Columbia Records.
Around 1953, Godfrey's music director & orchestra leader, Archie Bleyer, founded Cadence Records. He signed the total of Godfrey regulars & previous regulars, including the Chordettes, world health organization experienced a total of hit records for Cadence.
Their large hit was Mr. Sandman inside 1954. Archie Bleyer himself get on that record along by using a class action.
Janet Ertel married Bleyer around 1954. Her girl Jackie married a second Cadence recording star, Phil Everly of The Everly Brothers. She died of cancer around 1988.
A Chordettes appeared in American Bandstand August 5, 1957, inaugurate a number one episode of a indicate all over the ABC Television Network.
Within 1961, Jinny Osborn left the class action, & it were unable to locate the replacement by having whom it were happy, leading to the breakup.
A class action was inducted into a Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 2001.
Jinny Osborn (by that instance Jinny Janis) died around 2003.
